ModernControls and Chesapeake Utilities Win Excellence in Craftsmanship Award

DCA Excellence AwardYANMAR America’s Energy Systems division congratulates ModernControls and Chesapeake Utilities on their recent receipt of the Excellence in Craftsmanship Award presented by the Delaware Contractors Association (DCA); this award, presented annually, recognizes the superior craftsmanship of a specific aspect of a project. For the Chesapeake Utilities Dover building, the award specifically recognized the complexity of the building’s HVAC system, as well as ModernControls’ integration of YANMAR’s natural gas-powered VRF systems into a seamless building automation system.

ModernControls is always looking for new opportunities to be on the cutting edge of technology. Knowing that YANMAR’s natural gas-powered VRF heat pump systems would be the first of their kind to be introduced to our local construction market, we were up for the challenge and were confident in the expertise and experience of our building automation team to deliver a state-of-the-art integrated solution to the end user.”

The Chesapeake Utilities project consisted of two newly constructed buildings; an office space of 55,700 square feet and warehouse of 32,400 square feet with $200,000 of HVAC controls work. The HVAC system was comprised of an Energy Recovery Unit, rooftop units and seven 14 ton heat recovery YANMAR VRF units.

According to ModernControls, one of the greatest benefits of the YANMAR natural gas-fired equipment over electrical equipment is the utilization of a highly efficient natural gas engine to drive compressors; the system can reduce overall electrical usage by up to 90% compared with traditional HVAC systems, which reduces overall operating costs by 30-70% and reduces the building’s carbon footprint.
